This engine was fully worked for power and
reliability.
Turbocharging a big 4.5 litre straight six Nissan Petrol
engine requires good working knowledge. It wasn't just a matter of
bolting on a turbo; the engine was fully re-built and re-balanced including
the following mods:
- Original GU conrods are
the smallest in the Patrol petrol engines. The bigger conrods from
the GQ model was used for this engine.
- New Nissan pistons
- The engine was ported and
polished where it counted
- Modified cam

- Water cooled head. A
larger water pump was also needed to circulate the coolant.

- Upgraded fuel injectors
- Coil packs replaced the
distributor
- Blow off Valve and External
Waste Gate will give more boost.
- T2 Garrett ball bearing
turbo
- Front mounted intercooler
- Stainless Steel manifold
- Mandrel bent exhaust
- MSD Coil Packs
- Motec management system

A more simple turbocharge conversion is to use a
full LPG gas system. An engine management system is not required for this
configuration. This engine produces 185kw at the rear wheels on 33"
tyres.
